Music Production: NEBULA by Giorgio Andreotta Calò with Emanuele Wiltsch Barberio

Between January and April 2024 visual artist Giorgio Andreotta Calò and Emanuele Wiltsch Barberio conceived and elaborated the soundtrack and soundscape for “Nebula”, Giorgio’s latest video commisioned by Foundation In Between Art Film and named after the collective exhibition presented during the 60th Visual Art Biennale at “Complesso dell’ Ospedaletto” in Venice.

The concept is inspired by the phenomenon of fog as a material and metaphorical space where visual orientation is reduced and different sensorial tools are required to produce and situate our understanding of what surrounds us. Hence the title of the exhibition “Nebula”, from Latin “mist” or “cloud”, a word that in modern English was chiefly used as a medical term to describe a cloudy speck or a film on the eye that caused vision problems, and from the early 1700s started to be applied in astronomy to describe great interstellar clouds of gas and dust.

Within this framework, Nebula is conceived as a stage where images, sounds, and the set design are in reciprocal dialogue with the architecture and history of the the hosting venue, Complesso dell’Ospedaletto, and moving images are explored as sites of material and metaphorical transformation.
